Youth Ministry Print

The mission of the Youth Ministry is to establish a strong spiritual and practical foundation for our children.  It is essential for our youth to develop an understanding of who God is and why God loves them.  We will do this by teaching kids through methods that they can better relate to, teaching them in ways that they learn best.  This is best described as Edu-Tainment.  While our goal and mission is not to entertain them, we will capitalize on how they learn best.

From these teachings, the youth will develop and appreciation for the scripture and the importance of a devoted life to Jesus Christ and to their church.

Proverbs 22:6 (paraphrased) has given all leaders the responsibility to "teach our children to choose the right path, so that when they are older, they will remain on it (NLT)."

The Six Keys To A Successful Youth Ministry Are:

  1. PRAYER is the number one tool needed for building an effective youth ministry.  There are two critical positions that a leader must take to stay on target with the youth.
    A. The first position is to pray for the youth, and
    B. The second position is to pray with the youth

  2. SPIRITUAL AND BIBLICAL EDUCATION is second on the list, but it must be the main attraction to the youth.  We must let them know that God is concerned about their welfare and their whole being.

  3. LIFE SKILLS deals with building youth than cannot only live in the future, but thrive in the future.  We have to build a balance between spiritual and practical living.

  4. PRAISE & WORSHIP (through song and dance) is the fourth key to youth ministry.  It involves commitment to singing, dancing and listening to Christian music.

  5. SETTING STANDARDS is next and very important because our youth need to know clearly that Christianity is not a game, but a Christ-Like life.  The youth need to know what God and the church expects from them.

  6. GROUP ACTIVITIES are needed and they play an important role within the Youth Ministry, but it should never be THE MAJOR role in the Youth Ministry.  Prayer, bible teachings and praise & worship should always be the main focus.

We must always remember that "God must be the primary focus (not things or events) if the Youth Ministry is to be effective."
