Jonathan B. Brown serves as the Senior Pastor and Founder of Word of Faith Christian Ministries and a member of the Board of Directors for Word of Faith Community Development Corporation. As an only child in a single parent household, he is the product of a strong, loving and caring mother (Verna Rellford). Through much prayer and training by his mother and others, he grew up with strength and the knowledge that he could be anything he wanted to be. During his first year of college (at Eastern Michigan University), his roommates invited him to an on campus Christian Bible Study group known as “Christ Within.” As a result of being raised in the church, he had the mindset that he understood what being saved was all about, in fact he considered himself saved. On September 15, 1992, while in a dormitory meeting room enjoying Bible Study, it was at that point that he realized that he was not saved; he had simply been a church-goer. At the end of Bible Study the alter call went forth. The Minister said, “If anyone wants to be saved, lift up your hands.” Under the urging of the Holy Ghost his hand went up and before Bible Study was over he had given his life to Jesus. He spent a total of 4 years at Eastern Michigan University, where he was a member of Perfecting Church (serving under the leadership of Pastor Marvin L. Winans and under the mentorship of Elder Ronald Winans). Upon graduation in June of 1996 (with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration), he returned back home to Riviera Beach and became the Youth Pastor at Grace Praise & Worship Center (under Reverend Kenneth Bowling). After completing his course at Grace Praise & Worship Center, God led him to New Life Evangelistic Fellowship to serve under Pastor Robert Watford. It was at New Life that Jonathan was Ordained as a Minister of the Gospel. Upon completion of God’s work at New Life, God Ordained him as a Pastor. On June 28, 2004, Word of Faith Christian Ministries was born. In his professional career he has worked in areas such as leisure services (for the City of West Palm Beach), the Department of Children and Family Services (providing welfare assistance for families); private-sector banking and finance (as an Assistant Vice President and Bank Manager at Washington Mutual Bank) and now county government; where for over three years he served as the Loan Manager for the Economic Development Office for Palm Beach County and now he serves as the Affordable Housing Manager for Palm Beach County in the Housing and Community Development Department. Some of Pastor Browns’ professional affiliations also include: Chairman of the Finance Committee for the Business Loan Fund of Palm Beaches, member of National Forum for Black Public Administrators and a member of the Urban Leagues Young Professionals. In April 2006, Pastor Brown graduated from the National Forum For Black Public Administrators, Executive Leadership Institute training program. This program included studies and training at seven of the top Universities of Public Administration in the United States. At Howard University, he honed his skills in communication, media relations and public awareness. At the University of Minnesota, the focus was on policy analysis and problem solving. During his time at Clark Atlanta University, he was trained in organizational development and program modeling. At Syracuse University he strengthened his knowledge in the fields of change management, resource development and allocation. At Duke University he studied education and social policy. While at the University of Kansas the focus was on local government management, community building and citizen engagement. Finally, at the University of Louisville he added to his knowledge base intergovernmental relationships (between city, county and state government) and public/private partnerships. In addition to Pastor Brown’s spiritual and professional responsibilities, he understands that ministry begins at home. After his love and passion for God and the things of God, comes his love and commitment to his family. He is the devoted husband of Minister Patricka D. Brown and the loving father of Matthew and Jordan. |
