FLORIDA RESOURCE CENTER FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN AWARDED AVON FOUNDATION "SPEAK OUT AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE" GRANT
|
The Avon Foundation has awarded a $10,000 one-year grant to
Florida Resource Center For Women and Children to provide direct
services to victims of domestic violence. It is the third year that
the agency has received Avon Foundation funding to support its
work on this important issue and in recognition of the excellence
of the ongoing program.
The Teen Intervention Program will support teen victims of
domestic/dating violence in Palm Beach County and will deliver
essential services including counseling, education, advocacy, case
management and support groups. The vital program will also
provide anti-violence education and support groups to teen in the
community.
Since July, 1999, Florida Resource Center For Women and
Children, Inc. has provided shelter and supportive services to
more than 12,000 victims of domestic violence as well as unique
and innovative educational and training programs to the
community.
Around the world, at least one in every three women has
experienced some form of violence or abuse during her lifetime.
Studies show 10 million children witness domestic violence each
year and that 1 in 4 have experienced dating violence - a number
that should raise alarm in parents everywhere.
"We are proud that the Avon Foundation shares our mission and
has chosen to support our programs for the past three years.
With these funds, we will be able to focus on teen victims who
have a great need for education, support and services", says Jane
Wagley, Program Director.
Since the launch of the Speak Out Against Domestic Violence
program in 2004, the Avon Foundation has awarded more than 90
grants totaling over $4 million to domestic violence organizations
across the United States, including Florida Resource Center For
Women and Children, Inc.
"The Avon Foundation is committed to speaking out against
domestic violence and is proud to support Florida Resource Center
For Women and Children, Inc. in its work to help victims of
domestic violence in Palm Beach County:, says Carol Kurzig,
Executive Director, Avon Foundation.
The Avon Foundation, an accredited 501(c)(3) public charity, was
founded in 1955 to improve the lives of women and their families.
Avon philanthropy worldwide has raised and awarded more than
$580 million. Now past the half century milestone, the Foundation
brings its mission to life through the Speak Out Against Domestic
Violence program and the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. Launched
in 2004, Speak Out supports domestic violence awareness,
education, direct services and prevention programs. Fundraising
projects include the Need For Speed Relay Against Domestic
Violence and special products sold by Avon Sales Represenitives
and at avonfoundation.org. Global expansion was initiated with
the launch of Speak Out Against Domestic Violence by Avon
Mexico which won awards for their domestic violence public
service announcement.
